Meat Pies

Meat pies are one of the most Australian dinners. This homemade version packs in a lot of veges without compromising that traditional taste. They can be frozen ready to be reheated on a night when you don’t want to cook or there is little in the fridge. Feel free to use whatever vegetables you have leftover in the mince. Hope you enjoy my meat pie recipe. This recipe can be used to make many little pies or one big pie to share

Ingredients
2 sheets of puff pastry ( the amount of puff pastry depends on the size of your pans and if you are making 1 large on or many little ones)
2 tablespoons oil
1 onion
2 stalks celery
1 carrot
1/2 corn
2 tablespoons garlic
250g beef  mince
1 jar of passata or pasta sauce
2 tablespoons gravy mix
salt
pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
  2. Leave the pastry out to thaw
  3. In a pan over medium heat saute the onion, garlic, and celery until soft and see through
  4. Add the mince and cook through
  5. Add the rest of the vegetables and the pasta sauce and season with salt and pepper
  6. Cook over low to medium heat for about 15 minutes until slightly reduced
  7. Place pastry on the bottom of your tray and blind-bake for 10 minutes
  8. Add the gravy powder to the meat mix and stir through
  9. Place the meat into the pastry case and top with another sheet of pastry
  10. Cook in the oven for 30 minutes if a mini pie or 40 minutes if a large pie
