4 ways with Hot cross buns

I can’t believe its easter already! Besides chocolate Hot cross buns are a staple of this holiday. There are so many different varieties now but here are 4 different ways to use them although they are always perfect just toasted with butter.

Version 1

Ingredients

  • 1 mocha hot cross bun
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 egg
  • 100ml milk
  • teaspoon butter
  • honey to drizzle

Method

  1. Preheat frying pan and melt some butter
  2. In a bowl whisk milk and egg together
  3. Cut hot cross bun in half
  4. Coat hot cross bun in egg mixture and then fry in the pan until crispy on both sides
  5. Serve with chopped banana and honey

Version 2

Ingredients

  • 1 brioche hot cross bun
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees
  2. Cut hot cross bun in half
  3. In another small bowl mix the butter, cinnamon and sugar
  4. Cook hot cross bun in the oven until golden ( this is usually around 3-5 minutes)
  5. Spread bun with cinnamon butter
  6. Enjoy your cinnamon toast hot cross bun

Version 3

Ingredients

  • 1 choc chip hot cross bun
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • hundreds and thousands

Method

  1. Cut hot cross bun in half
  2. Scoop ice cream on one half and top with other
  3. Pour sprinkle onto a plate and dip each side to coat
  4. Enjoy your easter ice cream sandwich

Version 4

  • 1 traditional hot cross bun
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sultanas
  • 1/2 apple cubed

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees
  2. Whisk milk, egg, sugar and cinnamon together
  3. Cut the hot cross bun into cubes
  4. Mix hot cross bun, apple and sultanas in a small dish
  5. Pour over egg mixture
  6. Cook for 20 -25 minutes until golden
