Nasi Goreng

Nasi Goreng was a dish I had heard about- mainly from this great ad but hadn’t tried it until a couple of weeks ago at a Malaysian restaurant. So, of course, I set out to try and make my own version. Looking up the spices used I realised that it was probably best to use a paste. Here is my version of Nasi Goreng. Feel free to add more chilli or use prawns instead of chicken. Also, this is the perfect recipe to use up leftover already cooked rice.

  • 3 spring onions
  • 1 large red chilli
  • 1 brown onion
  • 3 chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons nasi goreng paste ( I used this one)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 150g green beans
  • 1 cup white rice cooked

  1. Thinly slice spring onion, chilli and brown onion and finely chop other vegetables and chicken into small cubes
  2. In a pan over low heat, lightly fry onions and chilli in the oil
  3. Once they begin to release their aroma, turn up the heat to medium-high and add chicken
  4. Add nasi goreng paste once chicken is cooked and stir through
  5. Which eggs in a separate jug, and then pour into a corner of the pan which you have cleared
  6. Let the egg mixture set for a bit and then scramble
  7. mix in scrambled egg and vegetables to chicken mix
  8. Finally add the cooked rice and mix thoroughly before serving

Enjoy xx
